coordinate clause
(grammar) one of two or more clauses in a sentence that are equal in importance, have similar patterns and are often joined by and, or, but, etc 并列分句(一个句子中所含有的至少两个地位相等、 结构相似的分句之一, 常以and、 or、 but等词相连接). Cf 参看 subordinate clause (subordinate).
In the nineteenth century, a novelist would bring his story to a conclusion by presenting his readers with a series of coincidences -- most of them wildly improbable.
